Short description

Flexural strength tester for determining the flexural strength and stiffness of paper and paperboard.

Flexural strength in paper and board is a complex property that depends on the network properties of the sheets, as well as the basic fiber properties to which they refer. It varies according to the type of paper, the fibres used, the manufacturing process and the grammage of the finished sheet. The two main criteria that determine stiffness are fibre dimensions and mass. It was found that stiffness is linearly proportional to the square root of the thickness at a given area weight. Since the bulk density of a paper is closely related to the degree of bond strength and fiber strength, a change in the basic fiber properties affects the flexural strength.
